The question of whether cell phone signal boosters work with AT&T 5G, Verizon 5G, and T-Mobile 5G has become increasingly prevalent with the rollout of 5G technology. The answer is yes, they do work with 5G, but not with the full capabilities of 5G, at least for now. Let us Explain.

First, there are Three Types of 5G Networks

The introduction of 5G technology promises significant improvements over 4G, including faster speeds, lower latency, and greater capacity. To achieve these improvements, 5G utilizes new technologies and a broader range of frequency spectrum. As a result, there are various types of 5G networks available, each with distinct characteristics.

Low-Band 5G operates on frequencies between 600 MHz and 1 GHz and is being deployed across the country, particularly in rural and suburban areas. It provides coverage and speed similar to 4G/LTE, and the two networks share the same frequency spectrum. In some cases, Low-Band 5G and 4G even use the same frequency bands, allowing for the rapid deployment of 5G using existing infrastructure.

Mid-Band 5G is considered the optimal choice, offering faster speeds than Low-Band 5G, but with less coverage. Frequencies range from 1 GHz to 6 GHz, with most being unique to 5G. Availability will be concentrated in urban and suburban areas.

High-Band 5G, or mm-Wave 5G, operates in the millimeter-wave spectrum, which is entirely new to mobile connectivity. These frequencies, ranging from 24 to 39 GHz, provide exceptional speed and capacity but with a limited coverage range. Due to this limitation, High-Band 5G will only be available in densely populated cities and must be deployed separately from 4G networks.

So, Do Signal Boosters Work with 5G?

The determining factor for whether signal boosters can work with 5G networks depends on the supported cellular frequencies. Regulations from the FCC specify that boosters can only work with certain frequency bands, primarily those used for 4G/LTE. Fortunately, the lower end of the 5G spectrum shares some frequencies with 4G networks, which means that boosters will work with 5G networks deployed across the currently supported bands. However, boosters won’t be able to deliver the full capabilities of 5G, such as gigabit speeds or 1ms latency. Our multi-carrier signal boosters support the following 4G and 5G frequencies:

  • 700 MHz (Bands 12 & 17): Used by AT&T, T-Mobile, and US Cellular
  • 700 MHz (Band 13): Used by Verizon
  • 850 MHz (Band 5): Used by AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and US Cellular
  • 1700/2100 MHz (Band 4): Used by AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and US Cellular
  • 1900 MHz (Bands 2 & 25), used by AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, and US Cellular

Bftsync’s WilsonPro Pro 710i Commercial Cell Signal Booster is the only unit that supports Band 71 (600 MHz).

Do Signal Boosters Boost Mid-Band 5G or High-Band 5G?

No. Signal boosters do not currently work with AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile’s super-fast Mid- or High-Band 5G networks. In other words, they will not enhance 5G+, 5G UW, or 5G UC networks.

Should I Get a 5G-Ready Signal Booster Now or Wait?

As previously stated, it may take some time before a signal booster that supports all types of 5G becomes available. So, if you require better signal quality for your work or leisure activities, it is not recommended to wait for a true 5G signal booster. This is because you may experience issues such as dropped calls and slow data for a few years. Moreover, if you live or work in rural areas, you may only have access to Low-Band 5G. You can always upgrade your signal booster to a true 5G booster once it is available.

Bftsync is a top supplier of signal boosters that can be used in residences, workplaces, and automobiles. These units are compatible with all 4G, LTE, and 5G networks that operate on the supported frequency bands. Whether you are utilizing 4G or 5G, these devices will enable you to experience improved call quality and faster data transfer rates in any location where you need them.
